Ahhh such pretty pretty things! So many of you have mentioned the “Look Good Feel Better” program to me, and guess what? I went yesterday! For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, “Look Good Feel Better” (or LGFB for the cool people) is a free program funded by the American Cancer Society that focuses on managing appearance-related side effects of cancer. Wow, that sounds really impressive. Mostly, I’m just happy I got a ton of free makeup. See! And this is just the good stuff.

I attended the LGFB group program at Beth Israel. I think they do them every month or so. There were only four patients in my group, which is apparently much smaller than usual. I was by far the youngest person there! First, they handed out our goodie makeup bags and did demonstrations on how to do your makeup. It’s not like any of this is new to me right now, but eventually I’ll have to get good at drawing on my eyebrows (NOT with a thick burgundy lipliner) and playing up my eyes without the benefit of eyelashes. I got to be the demonstration model, which was super fun.
Next topic: hair loss. LGFB also gives out tons of information about hair care, wig resources, and use of scarves and hats. I had promised myself that I wouldn’t be one of those chemo patients that walks around with a turbaned-scarf thingy on, what’s that about? Well, I lied. I tried on scarf headwraps, and I LOVE THEM. So cancer chic. I guess now I have to go scarf shopping :-) Also, did you know that insurance often covers the cost of a wig, if your doctor writes a prescription for it? Technically it’s a “scalp prosthesis”, but Blue Cross Blue Shield will reimburse me for $500 towards wigs this year. Holy cow!!!! This is gonna be awesome.

I really can’t recommend this program enough. It was free, it was convenient, and it was a lot of fun. If you know anyone else that is going through cancer (or has recently done so), definitely make sure they look up “Look Good Feel Better”. The program lives up to it’s name :-)
La magia del pintalabios, la cachetina y el delineador de ojos... lo hace a uno sentir muchísimo mejor.
