Change is in the Hair

There are unexpected upsides to cancer and chemotherapy. I’m connecting with old friends, for example, and fitting back into my skinny jeans. One of the coolest benefits is that I no longer have to worry about the health of my hair, so why not have fun with it? Like most women I’ve always wanted what I can’t have, and for me that means sassy blonde hair. It’s damaging, unhealthy, and expensive to keep up… unless you’re about to lose it all anyway. So I was brave and took the plunge! Here is what I looked like two days ago:
So long and dark...
First I cut off 10 inches in length, which will be donated to Locks of Love. Thank you to all the insightful individuals who suggested I make a wig out of my own hair. Unfortunately that is both logistically impossible and also really really gross. I enjoyed having short, dark hair for the day. I think it looked quite professional, and it would probably cut down on the number of people who think I’m 19 years old.

It's like a small furry animal.

Getting impatient with blowdrying...

I look so much older!!!
Today I took the BIG LEAP and went blonde. Keep in mind I haven’t ever bleached my hair, the most I ever did was tint it slightly more red in high school. This is a big deal for me!!! I had tons of fun with Tobey at Liquid Hair Studio in the South End. If you’re going for a dramatic change or just want to laugh a lot with your hairdresser, go see Tobey!!! Not only did he do an awesome job with my hair, but he was also very understanding and we had a lot of silly fun with this process. Isn’t that what it’s all about? And believe me, going blonde is a process. It took about two and a half hours, and there were so many steps!
Nice to meet you, Tobey.

I asked when they were removing their halloween decorations. They're always like this...

A tad nervous.

Team Tuna!

My mom is so good at taking photos.

I have NO IDEA why this happened.

WHAT DID I DO? (before toner)

I love it. I couldn’t be happier. I still do a double take whenever I walk past a mirror, but I feel like a blonde bombshell. It’s so liberating!!! Now we have to find out if blondes really do have more fun…
THANK YOU TOBEY!!!!!!!!

  2. You look like a movie star,a paparazi killed to get this picture. I love it girl, you look great blonde, dark, short, or long hair. Not everyone could pull that off. I sent you a comment last week, but it didn't go through, I was so pissed because It was pretty long, with a lot of heart felt data. Girl, I just want you to know that I admire you so much. You always have a smile, and always say "Hi". You are teaching us so much, people sometimes don't smile enough. With your courage and strengh through this, I think of life in a different way. You are such a great person, and your example to all healthy or unhealthy people will make a difference. I want you to know that if there's anything you need or want, I'm here for you.
